Burnout

************************
Catch a fire
Feelings for hire
A cornucopia of desire
Or so it seems
But we all know that nothing is as it seems…
Don’t we?
Its funny how the metaphors
That describe the things I met her for
Companionship
Sharing
Excitment
Begin to lose meaning
As I change places, see new faces
Meet others
Gain new bothers
And the memories?
They fade away
A little a day
Until they are nothing but what is left of the echoes of what was once a very
Loud
Beautiful
Sound
Just another note in the symphony that is life
My life.
My life has been a series of
Divergent
Indulgent
Experiences
My existence has been the sum of
Transient
Intense
Moments
As my future continuously consumes my present
And excretes its predecessor into the
Dark
Black
Murky
Waters of the toilets of all that is my past
Relationships are fractured
Feelings are blurred
Replaced with
Memories that are unworthy of the experiences that birthed them
Still I collect them
Reveling in the
Making
Being
Collecting
There is no joy in the keeping
Only…
Hollow whispers
A dull susurrus
Echoes of laughter
A sapless harmony
Blurry pictures
A sequence of banal visions
And the ashes
Which are all that is left when the fires of what was once a
Raging
All-consuming
Passion
Eventually burn out.

  1. Been meaning to write something about fire. Never was inspired enough. Too much pain I’m feeling at the moment and even that’s not helping. I love this.

  2. Honest.

Ah my dear Wole, it is well. We will sit down sometime in the near future and reminisce at what once was. It would all be laughter then for what matters most is that you put your feet forward.

I just realised I haven’t signed to this blog. Such an error.

    • Honest? Is it? As much as it would seem like it it, this isnt really about me. Though it is… in part but not really. Some parts are, some are not. So it cannot really be honest.

      Thank you regardless

      🙂

    • Should not? Just because it does not doesnt mean it should not. Ah well. As you say it is the way of fire. I suppose what we need is an even burn that is easily re-stoked. Not too bright, not all consuming… just consuming enough to keep us warm and comfortable till the end of us… hopefully before the burnout. Perhaps.
